Island Grown Schools
January 1, 2017 - December 31, 2017
Martha's Vineyard has been leading the charge in local and sustainable living for decades. The 2017 Tisbury Turkey Campaign celebrates that tradition with all new art, apparel, and gifts to benefit Island Grown Schools.
Teaching kids about growing and harvesting food not only enables them to make responsible decisions about their environment, but it also enables them to make better dietary choices. Working with local farmers enriches an already-strong local identity and pride, and provides skills that remain valuable for a lifetime. Bringing fresh, local foods into school cafeterias enriches student experience and helps kids understand the cycles of food production an hunger prevention in their community.
Island Grown Schools is a leader in farm-to-school education in the United States, and Tisbury Turkey is proud to support their efforts with our 2017 campaign.
Artwork for this campaign was created by Courtney Minnehan of Island Roots Designs. Her whimsical, colorful, ink-and-paint designs celebrate local Martha's Vineyard agriculture and a love of the Island. Throughout 2017, 25% of profits on sales of Minnehan's designs purchased through Tisbury Turkey goes directly to Island Grown Schools.
Vineyard House Sober Living
JUNE 1, 2016-DECEMBER 31, 2016 CAMPAIGN
Update: Now that 2016 has come to a close, 5% of sales of items featuring the moth design will be donated to the Vineyard House.
This summer, we launched a very special campaign for Vineyard House for Sober Living, a sober residence for Vineyarders recovering from addiction. Vineyard House provides housing for Island men and women in need of a safe structured living environment while they are in the early stages of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Late last year, we approached Althea Freeman of Althea Designs about creating custom artwork for a Tisbury Turkey campaign. Inspired by the way the Martha's Vineyard community has come together to support families and individuals suffering from the devastation of opiate abuse, Althea created this hand-carved linoleum block print of a Luna Moth in honor of Vineyard House.
The luna moth is often seen as a symbol of rebirth and new beginnings. They seek moonlight in the darkness, and therefore often signify a search for truth, enlightenment, or awareness. Althea's carving includes a light house to guide you home, waves to carry you, and a third eye to help you find your path. This special artwork is limited-edition, with fewer than twenty-five hand-printed copies produced. Prints and products featuring this image benefit Vineyard House throughout 2016, with twenty-five percent of the profits going directly to Vineyard House in addition to five percent of regular Tisbury Turkey sales.
